Staff QUalifications

Registered Behavior Technician

This type of provider can deliver , the direct intervention component of. crisis intervention, and behavioral intervention. This individual must be supervised in accordance with the evidence-based model. The qualifications for this type of provider are:

  • An individual who holds a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma.
  • An individual who has taken the 40-hour Registered Behavior Technician Course.
  • An individual who has passed a competency assessment delivered by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst.
  • Passes an exam delivered by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board.
  • Is closely supervised on-going by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst.
  • Maintains certification by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board.

Evidence-based interventions include interventions that have been scientifically researched and reviewed in peer-reviewed journals, replicated successfully by multiple independent investigators, have been shown to produce measurable and substantiated beneficial outcomes, and are delivered with fidelity by certified or credentialed individuals trained in the evidence-based model.

Intervention Technician

This type of provider can deliver behavioral intervention and provide the direct intervention component of crisis intervention for a maximum of 18 successive months. This provisional position is intended to allow an individual to gain the necessary degree, experience, and/or competency needed to qualify as an intervention specialist or higher. 

To meet qualifications, you must be an individual who is 

  • currently enrolled in an and is within twenty-four (24) semester credits, or equivalent, to completing their bachelor's degree; or higher from an accredited institution in a human services field 
  • and/or working towards meeting the experience 
  • and/or working towards meeting competency requirements.

An individual who holds a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a human services field or has a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 24 semester credits, or equivalent, in a human services field 

  • and/or working towards meeting the experience or competency requirements.

Intervention Specialist

This qualification can provide all types of children’s habilitation intervention services, and complete assessments and implementation plans when they meet additional requirements. These individuals must be supervised monthly by a specialist or professional. This individual must meet the following minimum qualifications: 

  • Hold a Habilitative Intervention Certificate of Completion in Idaho with an expiration date of July 1, 2019 or later. These individuals will be allowed to continue providing services as an intervention specialist as long as there is not a gap of more than three (3) successive years of employment as an intervention specialist. 

OR 

  • Has a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a human services field or has a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of twenty-four (24) semester credits, or equivalent in a human services field. 
  • Has one thousand forty (1,040) hours of supervised experience working with participants birth to twenty-one (21) years of age who demonstrate functional or behavioral needs.  
  • Complete a forty (40) hour applied behavior analysis training delivered by an individual who is certified or credential to provide the training.

Intervention Professional

This type of provider can deliver all types of children's habilitation intervention services and complete assessments and implementation plans. Intervention professionals must meet the following minimum qualifications:

  • Hold a master's degree or higher from an accredited institution in psychology, education, applied behavior analysis, or have a related discipline with one thousand five hundred 1,500 hours of relevant coursework or training, or both, in principles of child development, learning theory, positive behavior support techniques, dual diagnosis, psychology, education or behavior analysis which may be documented within the individual's degree program, other coursework, or training
  • Has one thousand two hundred 1,200 hours of relevant experience in completing and implementing comprehensive behavioral therapies for participants with functional or behavioral needs, which may be documented within the individual's degree program, other coursework, or training.

Evidence Based Model Professional

This type of provider can deliver all types of children's habilitation intervention services and complete assessments and implementation plans. The qualifications for this type of provider are:

  • An individual who holds a master's degree or higher from an accredited institution in accordance with their certification or credentialing requirements.
  • An individual who holds a masters level certification or credential in an evidence-based model approved by the Department.
  • An individual who is a board-certified behavior analyst (BCBA) or holds a master’s level certification in the Early Start Denver Model meets the requirements of an evidence-based model intervention professional.

Additional Staff requirements

Background Check

 Lotus Early Learning is devoted to ensuring the safety of our clients. To ensure client safety all LEL staff are required to clear an Idaho Department of Health and Welfare Criminal History Background Check. 

  • The agency administrator will ensure that all staff have completed fingerprinting with the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare within 21 days of hire. At the time a job offering is made, the agency administrator will provide instructions and assistance in setting the fingerprint appointment prior to date of hire. 
  • If employee orientation is scheduled to begin prior to the fingerprint appointment, the staff member may print the application from the Criminal History Unit and sign the application before a notary. The notarized application may be presented to LEL to begin hire. The employee will only be cleared to work for 21 days from the date of notarization. 
  • At the fingerprint appointment, the staff will provide a notarized application to the Criminal History unit, a check for payment, and will have their fingerprints collected. 
  • Staff must obtain a clearance letter 21 days from the date of hire. This clearance letter will be filed in the employee file. If printing and/or clearance has not been made, employment must cease until writing permission from the Criminal History Unit is obtained. 
  • After Criminal History clearance, staff will report any criminal convictions, pending investigations, or pending charges to their immediate supervisor. The supervisor will notify the agency administrator who will be responsible to report any of the above to the department within 24 hours of notification. 
  • LEL will require updated background check through the Idaho State and/or Washington State Police name check system to determine continued clearance for all staff every three years so the agency is aware of any new criminal offenses for each staff member. 


CPR and First Aid

 All staff will maintain current CPR/First Aid certifications for the age ranges of infancy through adult within 90 days of hire. Certification will be renewed based on expiration date of certification. All clients must have access to a staff member with CPR/First Aid Certification when services are being provided. 

On-going Training Requirements

 All staff of Lotus Early Learning are required to have a minimum of 12 hours of formal training each calendar year. In addition, staff who hold certifications or licensures are required to fulfill the requirements to maintain those certificates or licenses. 

 Upon initial hire, staff will attend an orientation. This orientation will include training on the following topics: 

• Fire and Safety Training (initial training will be provided during orientation and annually thereafter) 

• Ethics Training (initial training during orientation and annually thereafter) 

• Ensuring client independence and provide space for privacy when needed 

• Appropriate use of Assistive Technology by clients 

• Record Keeping and Data Collection 

• Observation, review, and monitoring of staff, volunteer, and client performance to ensure client success 

• Participant Rights 

• Advocacy Resources 

• Confidentiality and providing space for privacy when needed 

• Client Safety and Welfare 

• LEL Policies and Procedures 

 

As clients are assigned to staff, training will be provided on the correct implementation of client’s programs/plans and the appropriate use of behavioral and developmental programming principles including the use of positive behavioral intervention techniques. 

When appropriate, staff will be trained to meet any special health or medical requirements of the clients they serve.
